Annual “Day in the Park” Hits it Out of the Park

One of the reasons COE is such a great place to work is the culture. We work hard but also know how to incorporate fun activities and events into our day.  It’s this culture that landed us on Crain’s list of the Best Places to Work in New York City. Whether it’s our in-office game room, post-work happy hours, birthday celebrations, or our annual “Day in the Park,” we know how to have a good time. In fact, we just completed our 5th straight summer park outing, and this one was a doozy.

Organized by our internal Great Place to Work (GPtW) committee and Zog Culture, we hit up Firefighters Field on Roosevelt Island for a little fun in the sun. Employees were divided into teams and competed in several events including a dizzy bat obstacle course, volleyball, and a relay race.

Everyone at COE loves a good challenge, so it’s safe to say things got a little competitive.

After it was all said and done, “Purple Nerds” came out on top and took home the championship trophy. “Team Broccoli” was runner-up with “Team Cheddar” placing third. “YMCoE,” “The Firewall,” and “Blue Moon” rounded out the standings.

“We may have looked nerdy, but we showed everyone that you should never judge a book by its cover,” said Nicole Murray, co-captain of the Purple Nerds. “I’m so proud of this team for the dedication, commitment, and teamwork that we displayed. It’s really similar to how we get the job done when we’re in the office. It’s just a part of our culture.”

It wasn’t just on the field where “Purple Nerds” dominated. They also earned top marks in spirit with their creative look and stellar props.

In addition to the events, there was post-game happy hour at Riverwalk Bar & Grill where the winners were announced.

“Day in the Park” is the brainchild of the GPtW committee, our team that plans internal events and ensures we maintain an exciting and fun culture.

It’s just another reason why COE is such a great place to work.
